All our teachers continuously assess the progress of children as they learn and we provide feedback through and annual rerpot each year around Easter to enable forward planning by parents and schools. We also provide a report at the end of the first term of learning for a beginner.
Cambridgeshire Music has developed over the last few years a set of progression levels that allows us to monitor progression between grade exam levels as well as make approximate comparisons to the variety of national qualification scales that exist.
You can see our full progression table below.
External music exams are another way of assessing how your child is progressing with his or her instrument. They provide a challenge and a goal to work towards alongide performances.
The process of sitting grade exams is managed between the teacher, student and parent. Cambridgeshire Music itself is not involved in the organisation of these exams at present. Please ask your teacher for more details.

Music exams start with grade 1, moving up to grade 8. Diplomas are available beyond Grade 8.
Some instrumental exams will assist in contributing to GCSE or A Level music study qualifications.
When your child is ready to sit a grade exam, the music teacher will discuss this with him or her and you. It is the music teachers who will organise the exam with the examining body, collect payment and let you know the result.
If you want to find out how much it costs to sit an exam and to download an exam syllabus visit these examination body websites.
