The opportunity for children and young people to experience and try out different types of arts opportunities is important to any parent or carer. Music is all around us and both entertains and helps us understand our world. We hope that the information on our site will enable you to find out about opportunities to participate and develop musical skills. For ease we break this down into four stages of a musical journey: Discovering, exploring, developing skills, advanced. Please contact us if you can't find what you need.
People may want to try something new at any stage in their life. All our bands and instrumental tuition can be tried out through a taster session in or out of school.
Additionally we provide opportunities for people to attend a concert or event at low cost. First time opportunities are available at most of our music academies or workshop days. Early years groups provide a starting point for young musicians to develop basic skills.
If you have a burning ambition to have a go at something let us know and we will point you in the right direction.
It's not always easy to know if a particular activity, instrument or band is right for you the first time.
We encourage people to explore an interest without necessarily having to commit to the long-term through short courses in and out of school, by providing KS2 whole-class programmes in primary schools, encouraging transfer of skills to new instruments if needed and enabling people to make decision about the next steps as they explore.
If you would like a workshop day, short course or need to find something similar for a particular musical interest - let us know.
Many people jump right to this stage and decide to focus on a particular instrument or musical skill. Or they might discover an old interest from their childhood or a new ambition to try something new.
Our instrumental tuition and band membership at Area Music Academies enables participants at all levels of experience to develop their interests at their own pace with experienced coaches and teachers.
Whether or not its a potential career choice or just a favourite hobby, many musicians aspire to a technically and musically advanced level.
We provide opportunities through our county level ensembles and other bands for people to work under expert guidance to achieve their ambitions and experience amazing musical challenges along the way.
