You can never be too young to start learning music. Babies love rhythm - clapping, beating, jigging...... sitting in the safety of their mother's laps they can absorb the sounds and movements around them. Young toddlers also enjoy the movement that goes along with traditional and new songs. In a half hour session youngsters are exposed to a very varied selection of music with rhythm and tone - loud, soft, slow, fast. They just think they're enjoying themselves but, actually, they are learning to count a beat.
Activities can include singing, movement to music, playing percussion and songs using balls, ribbons, teddies etc. These early years sessions enable children to learn about different musical concepts - dynamic, tempo, pitch in an enjoyable way. As their musical skills develop, they are working towards playing an instrument. Even these little children have an opportunity to sing on their own and as part of a group. All this fun helps to build language and musical confidence, which also works towards enhancing their social skills as part of a group.
