County Bands & Orchestras

Our County music academy provides a wonderful opportunity for further advancement for talented and enthusiastic young musicians. Membership allows them to extend their musical skills and repertoire by working with professional conductors and tutors. Each year there are chances to take part in residential courses, festivals, recordings and concert tours.

Cambridgeshire County Youth Orchestra (CCYO) County Youth String Orchestra (CYSO), and Cambridgeshire Youth Wind Orchestra (CYWO) perform concerts each year in venues including Peterborough and Ely Cathedrals and West Road Concert Hall. Membership for the season (September to August) gives students the opportunity to play in all ensembles, according to instrument and level of experience.

Applications are invited from musicians at Grade 5 level and above for CYWO and CYSO and Grade 7 and above for CCYO. An audition may be required for all members; usually this is done during a course or playing day.

Members of county orchestras should be playing and performing regularly in school, college and area academy ensembles. We welcome back university students. Members are expected to attend all scheduled rehearsals and events if joining the ensemble.
