Cambridgeshire Music Services

Cambridgeshire Music provides Instrumental and Vocal Tuition, classroom music tuition and large group instrumental tuition.

Instrumental and Vocal Music Tuition

Cambridgeshire Music offers instrumental and vocal tuition in groups (and sometimes individually) to students of all ages. A wide range of instruments are supported from drum kit to harmonium and all are taught by qualified or experienced music teachers working to the national standards set by the Federation of Music Services and the "Common Approach" scheme of work.

Cambridgeshire Music teachers will advise each prospective student as to the suitability of instruments and advise an alternate instrument if necessary.

The music service strongly recommends that students and parents take advantage of free 'trial' sessions where a range of instruments can be tried before committing to tuition.

Students receiving Cambridgeshire Music instrumental tuition are automatically members of our Area Academies.

Classroom Music Tuition

Cambridgeshire Music provides specialist music teachers for primary and secondary class tuition. Each teacher has qualified teacher status and many have experience as heads of music and music co-ordinators. Each one receives ongoing training and support within the service. Schools are expected to define the schemes of work to which teachers are working and provide TA support as normal to students that require it.

Teaching can be provided in support of other class teachers: as a PPA workforce reform solution: maternity cover or as a member of your school's team of specialist teachers. The success of this provision is shown in the number of long term teaching relationships we now have.

The service also supports OFSTED action plan implementation on request, usually in conjunction with assigned inspectors.

Large Group Instrumental Tuition

Cambridgeshire Music provides large-group instrumental tuition also known as Wider Opportunities, working alongside classroom music teachers, at all levels of primary education and key stage 3. There is a focus on musical learning and understanding through the development of skills on particular instruments. The schemes are designed specifically for each school's needs and can support students particularly where there is low access to instrumental music-making.

These projects have included Wind bands, String Ensembles, Keyboard Classes,Ceilidh, Samba Bands, African Drumming Groups, Marching Bands, Ocarina classes and much more.

The programme offers the possibility of majority rather than minority access to instrumental and vocal learning with specialist teachers within the context of the classroom music lesson, extending the national curriculum.

Students involved with these projects are automatically members of our county wide Area Academies.
