Are you interested in a youth orchestra with a difference? The CHMYO has a unique blend of good music-making, foreign trips each summer and language practice in host families. It is nearly 50 years old, non-profit, run by a committee of parents, but operating under the umbrella of Cambridgeshire Music.
Every summer, 25 musicians from the Cambridgeshire area meet up either in Hiedelberg , Montpellier or Cambridge, with other young people from those cities. In 2011 the annual visit will be in Cambridge. They work hard towards a final concert but also have trips, social events and loads of fun. Participants tend to come again and again and make good friends not just with their own group but also with their French and German counterparts.
There are no auditions for CHMYO, but players need to be of at least Grade 6 standard, (most are Grade 7 or 8) and not younger than 13 unless parents can vouch for their maturity. As always, we have fewer places for woodwind and brass. Preference will be shown to those who have a second orchestral instrument.
