John Lewis Cambridgeshire Music Awards
John Lewis Cambridgeshire Music Awards
Musical Partnership
John Lewis and Cambridgeshire Music enjoyed an immensely successful musical partnership when John Lewis sponsored a wide ranging series of musical events and concerts.
In fact so successful was the collaboration between Cambridgeshire Music and John Lewis been that a fund – the John Lewis Cambridgeshire Music Awards - was established to enable young Cambridgeshire and Peterborough-based musicians under the age of 21 to apply for a financial grant, which will enable them to access a musical experience which financial constraints currently precludes.
Success Criteria
As is evident from the list of previous winners these musical experiences can be very varied.
When making their decisions the Trustees take into account any potential benefit to the widest possible number of beneficiaries. They also prefer to support applicants whose projects are less likely to succeed without their support. They do not support events retrospectively.
JLCM Awards invites applications from schools and musical groups as well as individuals however it is unlikely that applications for instrument purchase for individuals will be successful. Individuals requesting support should also bear in mind that the most important criteria for the Trustees is whether there will be a wider community benefit from any award and if it is simply the applicant who will benefit then there is little chance the request will be granted.
We recommend that schools who are considering requesting a grant for instrument purchase for a project contact Cambridgeshire Music beforehand to see if we would be able to help in the first instance. The Trustees will rarely grant an award for travel costs.
